Chapter 6: Are You a Fool? (1)
I never imagined that the original owner would turn out to be Kim Do-jin.
‘But how did this item end up in that shop?’
The moment I realized I was still alive, my mind started racing. Even though I had visited that store countless times in previous loops, I’d never seen this watch there before.
What exactly is going on?
Did I really die?
It was impossible to know for sure. Even as I kept thinking it over, my SP continued to rise.
At first, I thought SP might stand for something like "Stamina Points," but upon closer inspection, I saw it written in small letters: [Soul Points].
Even though I now knew it stood for Soul Points, I still didn’t understand what it meant.
“Why is it rising so fast? It’s unsettling.”
[You have accumulated over 50 million SP.]
[You are temporarily granted access to the highest-level shop.]
- If SP falls below 20 million, shop access will be restricted.
- Each item can only be purchased once and will be bound upon purchase.
[SP calculation has concluded.]
[As an initial benefit, causality adjustment will take place in 30 minutes.]
Right after that, a giant timer appeared in front of me. It read "30:00," indicating the countdown had begun.
Ignoring the watch for the time being, I opened my status screen.
[Lee Su-hyuk]
- Level: 19 (—%)
- Health: C+ (—%)
- Mana: D- (—%)
- Strength: C- (—%)
- Healing: D- (—%)
- Skill: [Celestial Sword (A) Lv.5]
- Talent: [Repeating Time (EX)]
“There’s no change in my status screen.”
My proficiency, level—everything was fixed. The reason was my one and only EX-grade talent, [Repeating Time (EX)].
Every skill has a base grade. Higher-grade skills have better effects or power by default. However, they consume a lot of mana, are hard to come by, and take a long time to level up. But once you have one, it’s a jackpot.
When I first obtained [Repeating Time], I felt like I’d conquered the world. Now, it’s a useless talent I can’t get rid of.
Here’s why:
[Repeating Time (EX)]
Upon death or after a set time, you return to two days prior with all memories intact. You cannot retain any experience or items, and all stats reset.
That’s it. At this point, it feels more like a debuff than a skill. An EX-grade skill that’s nothing but a debuff… Who could I even explain that to?
[SP Shop]
- Highest-level shop available.
Current Balance: 50,550,000 SP
“Fifty million, huh?”
Given that it unlocked the highest tier, it seemed like a substantial amount. The shop offered a surprisingly large selection of items.
★ First-Time Limited Beginner Package Level 1 ★
50,000G + Guaranteed B-Grade Weapon Box + 10 Random Attribute Runes + Path of the Hero (7 days) + 10 Tower of the Brave Entry Tickets
10,000,000 SP → 95% discount!
500,000 SP
“Is this a joke?”
If they’re going to discount something from 10 million by 95%, they should just price it lower to begin with.
It seems these pricing tricks are the same everywhere.
[Guaranteed B-Grade Weapon Box]
Grants one randomly selected B-grade item.
[Random Attribute Rune]
Gives a chance to obtain a rune of any attribute at random. After using 100 runes, the chance of getting a rune of B-grade or higher increases significantly.
- EX: 0.0000003%
- SS: 0.00125%
- S: 0.08732%
- A: 0.12546%
- ...
- F: 50%
[Path of the Hero (7 Days)]
Activates buffs: Beginner’s Blessing, Goddess’ Favor, Lucky, Immortal’s Grace, and Elixir of Experience. All buffs stack.
[10 Tickets for the Tower of the Brave]
Want to become a hero?
“What even is this? This is ridiculous…”
It all felt just like a game.
Even though the world had turned chaotic after the appearance of dimensional gates, I’d never heard of anything like this.
Ignoring the beginner packages, I scrolled all the way to the bottom, where higher-priced items began to appear.
[Highest-Grade SP Shop]
- Purchases are limited to one per item.
- If SP requirements aren’t met, the sale may be denied, and the spent SP won’t be refunded.
- Minimum purchase starts at 10 million SP.
“What’s with this?”
Even for the highest-grade items, this was going too far. I looked over the selection, wondering what could be so valuable.
There weren’t many items listed under the highest grade.
"A curse that guarantees death, a skill that allows you to retain all stats and skills when returning, resurrection of the dead, divine descent, summoning a Grade 1 monster, EX-grade item selection… Wait, what?”
The “highest grade” label was no exaggeration—these items were outright absurd. I could barely believe they were even possible.
It almost felt like I was dreaming. It’d be a lie to say I wasn’t tempted by some of these highest-grade items.
Take the item called “Holy Water,” for instance. Its name sounded like some basic potion, but the description said otherwise.
“Heals all diseases.”
It was a single line, but an enticing one. The thought of “what if” lingered in my mind.
“No.”
When I first got trapped in this time loop, I had used endless days to study ways to cure Min-Ah’s illness.
Every two days, my stats reset, but my knowledge and thoughts didn’t.
“I don’t even know if Min-Ah’s condition falls under ‘all diseases.’”
And with the minimum starting at 10 million SP, a mistake in inputting the amount could mean losing all my SP. Yet, going all-in wasn’t an option either, as I wasn’t sure I could gather this much SP again.
It was essentially a one-time chance, and I couldn’t risk Min-Ah’s life on a gamble.
“Ugh, I’ll have to think about this later.”
With that thought, I closed the SP shop.
[Lee Su-Hyuk's causality is being adjusted.]
“What?”
[Repeating Time (EX) is being discarded.]
[Due to the discard of EX-grade, a skill will be randomly granted.]
In front of me, colorful skill cards appeared, swirling around like a whirlwind, and before I could even react, one card shot toward me.
“Silver? Looks like a buff type.”
Each skill card had a unique color that hinted at its type. Just by the color, I could roughly guess what kind of skill it belonged to.
Golden cards were for healing, silver for buffs, black for debuffs, normal cards were non-elemental, and the rest had colors assigned based on their attributes.
For attribute cards, you had to flip them to see if they were for attack or buffs, but with a silver card, it meant a guaranteed buff unrelated to any element.
“I’m a dealer, though…”
If they were going to discard my skill and give me something else, I’d have preferred a flashy attack skill or something.
I looked around, wondering if there was a re-roll function, but there wasn’t one.
[Blood Exchange (S)]
Level: 1 (0.00%)
Allows the exchange of stats with each other. The exchange rate increases as the level rises.
At least it was fortunate that it was an S-grade skill.
“What does it mean to exchange stats with each other?”
When in doubt, the best course of action was to try it out.
[Using Blood Exchange to convert Mana into Health.]
[Mana drastically decreases.]
[Health increases.]
As my mana dropped sharply, I felt dizzy and lightheaded. However, I also realized my body felt lighter.
[Lee Su-Hyuk]
Mana: F (in Blood Exchange state)
Health: B
My mana had completely converted into health. While Mana F was a bit extreme, it wasn’t all bad.
“If I use this wisely, it could be a game changer.”
While Blood Exchange itself might not be amazing, how it could be used depended on the skill set I had.
Magic and support roles would struggle, but in extreme cases, it could allow me to switch between dealer and tank roles.
After ending the Blood Exchange, I pulled out my watch from my pocket. The second hand of the stopped watch began to move.
The horizon, which had felt so distant, gradually approached, and a wide light came closer.
[Returning to the Last Time.]
That was my final memory from that place.
***
I opened my eyes. A white ceiling and the sound of numerous machines echoed in my head. As I blinked, a nurse checked on my condition.
“Are you awake, patient? Can you hear me?”
I felt dazed, as if I was under the influence of medication. I nodded, and shortly after, a doctor arrived. I was in a hospital.
After about a day, I was able to remove the oxygen mask. As I regained the ability to speak, I managed to have brief conversations with the medical staff.
“Rescue team?”
“Yes. You’re the only survivor, Lee Su-Hyuk.”
Realizing that there had been a problem with the dimensional gate, they immediately forced it open from the outside to send in the rescue team.
